Henry Francis du Pont chose an antique silk wall covering for a vestibule in his house at Winterthur. Made in Europe in the 19th century, the wall covering is decorated with appliquéd and painted Chinese figures and furnishings on a background of painted buildings, people, and trees. As a result of the flourishing trade between Asia and the West in the 18th and 19th centuries, “chinoiserie” motifs became popular in the grand houses of Europe and England. Hickory Chair has selected one vignette from the wall covering as inspiration for this elegant table. The apron and leaves have a shaped profile creating a scalloped effect when each of its leaves are used. Oxford finish with Soft Brass ferrules standard. Optional Saddle finish shown. Extends from 88 to 136-inches with two 24-inch leaves installed. Clearance Below Aprons - 26". Optional leaf bag available as 1040-00.
