Ecru on Oak
Ecru is historically defined as the color of unbleached linen, its name originating from the French word écru, meaning "raw" or "unbleached." Often referred to as "the color of silk," it’s more cream than white, with soft yellow or grayish hues that evoke the timeless elegance of organic textiles, offering a warm, natural aesthetic. Applied as a stain finish, Ecru enhances the inherent beauty of the wood while allowing the natural grain to show through. Oak is the only species that supports the toning of Ecru, as its natural color complements the subtlety of the stain. The finish features a flat sheen with no physical distressing. It is not recommended on ash and is not available on any other wood species.

SHEEN
Flat
Sheen is the amount of light reflected on a stained or painted surface. The intensity and direction of the light source plays a part in how sheen can influence the finish on a piece of furniture. Hickory Chair has selected a standard sheen level for each finish that showcases the finish at its best. Hickory Chair recommends a Match Panel to confirm sheen change.
Note: Changing Sheen levels from standard sheen, may cause finish color perception to vary.
Flat Sheen (standard for this finish) - A smooth, no-shine finish that feels close to the natural texture of wood. This understated look brings a soft, modern, and organic appeal, ideal for a more relaxed or casual aesthetic.
Low Sheen - A soft, velvety finish with minimal reflection. It adds a subtle glow that enhances the wood’s character while maintaining a refined and approachable look — versatile for both modern and traditional styles.
Medium Sheen - A smooth, moderately reflective finish that offers a sense of richness and depth without being too glossy. This sheen adds polish and highlights details, giving furniture a luxurious yet timeless feel.
High Sheen - A bright, reflective finish that brings clarity and depth to the surface. Its crisp, polished look makes a bold statement, though it may show marks from use more easily than lower sheen levels.
